Gloucester Rugby Foundation is today celebrating after being awarded almost £10,000 in National Lottery funding to use the power of rugby to deliver additional engagement hours during the Summer 2023 holidays for young people aged fourteen to seventeen who are at risk of anti-social behaviour.

Gloucester Rugby Foundation is the official charitable arm of Gloucester Rugby. Established in 2016, the Foundation has grown to become one of the leading charitable organisations in Gloucestershire, using sport as a vehicle to achieve positive social change.

The new funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, which distributes money raised by National Lottery players for good causes and is the largest community funder in the UK, will see the Foundation run its new ‘Rugby in the Community’ programme.

Each weekday from Monday August 7th, the Foundations qualified community staff will deliver sessions from accessible community venues that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming. Every session will be free to attend and will be two-hours in duration, and will finish with an end of Summer festival at Kingsholm Stadium.

Foundation Chief Executive, Rob Webber, says: “We’re delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund has recognised the quality of our work by funding our delivery. Thanks to the support of the National Lottery players we are able to launch our programme of summer activities, providing free, fun and engaging enrichment activities for young adults in Gloucester.”

“It can be hard during the school holidays to find accessible and affordable activities for people to keep themselves occupied, so we hope that these events will provide regular enrichment opportunities through our wonderful sport.”

The National Lottery Community Fund recently launched its new strategy, ‘It starts with community’, which will underpin its efforts to distribute at least £4 billion of National Lottery funding by 2030.

As part of this, the funder has four key missions, which are to support communities to come together, be environmentally sustainable, help children and young people thrive and enable people to live healthier lives.

National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. Thanks to them, last year The National Lottery Community Fund was able to distribute over half a billion pounds (£588.2 million) of life-changing funding to communities.
